Heater Treaters: Fundamentals
e-Learning
About the eLearning Course
This course introduces you to the treatment given to crude oil as it is produced. The program covers how emulsions are formed and how stable emulsions are broken by chemical treatment. The program also introduces you to the basics of heater treater construction and operation.
Target Audience
Operations personnel who require a fundamental understanding of knowledge to operate and maintain facilities. Also suitable for maintenance and technician personnel whether new to their roles or seasoned experts looking to enhance their skills. You Will Learn
Participants will learn how to:
- Identify the basic elements of well fluids, including BS&W and emulsions.
- Describe basic characteristics of oil and water emulsions.
- Describe the conditions under which emulsions will form in oil wells.
- Explain how chemicals and heat can be used to break stable emulsions.
- Describe how heater treaters use chemicals to treat emulsions.
- Explain the flow of well fluids through a heater treater.
- Identify the components of the gas separator.
- Describe components of the free water knockout section and the heating and water wash section.
