Alan Mills

MR. ALAN MILLS specializes in Commissioning & Start-Up (CSU) and is a subject matter expert in Systems Completion, operating as an auditor, advisor and trainer. He is a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology (IMarEST). He is the owner-operator of two companies; Falcon Global Ltd, created in the UK as a start-up in 2000 and Global Falcon Americas, Inc in 2006.

Mr. Mills spearheaded the market launch of 2 successful software products; PathMaker in 2005, followed by Zenator in 2010. Global Falcon Americas, Inc was created in 2006. He went on to develop business on 5 continents, producing worldwide sales revenues of $40m with Chevron, ExxonMobil, Anadarko, Petrofac, PDO and others. His career in the oil & gas industry has mostly been spent working in US, Europe and SE Asia, and mainly focused on CSU. He is passionate about increasing process safety and helping companies to be successful in the way their projects are completed. His influence contributed to the success of major capital projects in Algeria, Angola, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Kazakhstan and Nigeria.

In 2012, Mr. Mills authored a training course in Systems Completion and Commissioning & Start-Up, the only course of its kind to be approved by the American Petroleum Institute. Keeping the content evergreen, he has delivered the course worldwide for hundreds of learners. Further industry approval was gained in 2020 when the UK's largest industrial training organization, ECITB, developed rigorous training standards in CSU and approved the course for CSU Engineer level.

Mr. Mills graduated from Nottingham Trent University in 1983 with a BSc (Hons) in Civil Engineering and developed a career with Brown & Root, Shell and ARCO British Ltd, working in Engineering Design, Project Management, Operations and Business Management.

Alan is equally passionate about his volunteer activities for the IMarEST. He joined the IMarE in 1983 and qualified as a Chartered Engineer in 1985. He is Chairman Emeritus of two branches: from 2001 to 2004 with East of England, and the Gulf Coast in Houston, Texas where he served from 2012 to 2019. He received the President’s Commendation for exceptional service to the Institute in 2006 and became a Fellow in 2012. In 2013 he was elected to Council and in 2016 was elected to the Board of Trustees where he is currently serving a second term.
