About the eLearning Course

This course will teach you about regulatory requirements governing well control and production safety duties specified in 30 CFR 250, including pollution prevention requirements, well completion requirements, and oil and gas drilling requirements. This course is designed for Mechanics and Electricians, “B” Operators, Instrument and Electrical Technicians, “A” Operators, Senior (Lead) Operators, Production Foremen and/or other positions.

Target Audience

Operations personnel who require a fundamental understanding of knowledge to operate and maintain facilities. Also suitable for maintenance and technician personnel whether new to their roles or seasoned experts looking to enhance their skills.

You Will Learn

Participants will learn how to:

  • Describe how offshore activity is regulated and approved, including accident reports and the use of BAST.
  • Identify the sign requirements for platforms, structures, artificial islands and mobile drilling units.
  • Identify the requirements for pollution prevention and control.
  • Describe the general oil spill response plan requirements.
  • Identify the training, exercise, and drill requirements for spill responders.
  • Describe the general safety requirements for oil and gas drilling operations.
  • Describe safe work practices and procedures for welding and burning.
  • Identify key safety requirements for electrical equipment, casing pressure, and BOP systems.
  • Describe the hydrogen sulfide contingency plan requirements and restrictions regarding flares.
  • Describe basic flaring and venting limitations and how to safely burn hydrocarbons.
  • Describe general tubing pressure testing and monitoring, and minimum wellhead safety valve requirements.
  • Describe the shut-in requirements when moving well-workover rigs and related equipment.
  • Identify the basic safety and environmental requirements for wireline workover operations.
  • Identify safety and out-of-service requirements for pipelines.
