Managing Wellsite Operations– Well Site Supervisor

Course

About the Course

This course is part of the Track 1: Well Site Supervisor Development Program. Well Site Supervisor Development Program - Track 1. Units 1-8 focus on the operational competencies associated with implementing a detailed design. Starting with this Unit 9: Managing Wellsite Operations, the remaining units focus on the leadership and soft skills related to creating a sustainable culture of continuous learning/improvement, especially on multiple well contracts. The wellsite supervisor, as the responsible party in charge, has an exceptional influence on creating a Learning Organization that improves safety, reduces days on location and meets the well objectives related to the reservoir. We need to understand why we are still making the same operational mistakes and be able to collectively analyze wellsite processes and consider, “What is possible?” A total of 29 hours are included in this course with 9 hrs eLearning and 20 hrs virtual instructor-led sessions.

Course Content

Virtual Instructor Led Training

During five sessions spanning twenty virtual training hours, participants will meet with the instructor to discuss how to Manage self and rig team situational awareness and competencies; Manage key relationships between surface subsurface parts of the well program; Manage communications to improve well site performance and build effective rig teams; Manage technical and interpersonal skills associated with complex operations; Manage the well monitoring program to reduce lost time risks. This includes properly emphasizing technical and interpersonal skills for well-site leadership and crews. One of the greatest areas for influence is ensuring ongoing competency development for each member of the rig crew.

Back-to-Work Plan

Work with management to become familiar with the key standards that apply to your roles and responsibilities at the wellsite. Identify the location of the safety standard sheets (where they are kept) at the wellsite location. Ensure they are comprehensive and address the appropriate product/material. Identify key prioritized well site problems (cost prioritized). Use the skillset developed in this unit to create collaborative solutions for those problems. Utilize the negotiation methodology to help resolve a lingering conflict at the wellsite. Consider the processes described in the Technical Limit exercises to identify five key items that can be improved at the wellsite regarding NPT, TT, or ILT. Visit your company mentor and become familiar with the competencies assigned to you. Answer the questions: How do I see each competency? How is it assigned? How is it developed? Review the standards specific to your operating region, which pertain to the role of WSS. Make a trip to one of the yards and discuss with the Warehouse Manager the process for ordering chemicals/materials, lead time, and transportation. This will help determine the “lead time” for your rigs.

A presentation recapping the learning and recommendations from each participant for this unit is made to a designee of the participant's manager.
